Video Conferencing

Students engaged with video conferencing

*Instructional software purchased through the LHRIC includes a professional service from our experienced staff.

About this Service

Video conferencing is highly effective to support classroom instruction and administrative needs in schools. There are a variety of products and approaches to implementing video conference solutions and many districts employ multiple solutions.  The technology is easily to use and offers tremendous flexibility in pricing and equipment options.  A trained professional development coach is available to help your schools determine the best approach based on your individual needs and available resources.

Elective Class Direct Instruction - Classes are available for students by connecting to classrooms in other locations across NYS.  These courses are well suited for students with unique needs for elective courses, Advanced Placement, special interest, and career and tech ed.  These solutions are appropriate when existing options don't aren't available in the local schools or to accommodate challenges with scheduling.  All courses are taught by a certified New York State teacher.  Districts that are interested in offering courses via video conference subscribe to the Distance Education Coser.  Most of these courses are offered via collaboration between the NY Distance Learning Consortium BOCES.  These classes require H323 video conferencing equipment.  Prices vary and the most used vendors are CISCO, Polycom and Lifesize although the technology is changes and more vendors are making this technology available.

Virtual Field Trips - Connections are easily made to museums, scientific installations, content area experts, government agencies, or schools and classrooms.  These connections are very effective and economic at bringing outside opinions, knowledge and skills to students where it wouldn't be possible otherwise.  These sessions can be made with enterprise systems or desktop systems via Skype, Google Hangout, Webinar Software.

Webinars - Webinars are increasing effective both in the classroom and administrative offices.  Using webinar software teachers can easily hold virtual classes for whole groups or individual students providing flexibility in time and location.  Busy administrators can minimize time traveling to and from meetings easily by gathering relevant staff or stakeholders in a webinar meeting.
